USUI
SHIKI RYOHO
THE
USUI SYSTEM OF NATURAL HEALING
Reiki was practiced in Tibet
thousands of years ago. The Tibetan
monks had mastered the art and science of tapping the universal life force
energy for man’s use in healing, self development and self transformation with
a view to achieving the ultimate goal of spiritual enlightenment. The method was known to only a few monks and
was taught to a select few of disciplined and deserving disciples. But, after a period of time, the Tibetan
monks stopped using Reiki for they concentrated more on healing the
spirit. The physical development aspect
was then left to Tibetan medical personnel.
Thus, Reiki, which was thought to have been buried in the high mountains
of Tibet, was rediscovered by a Japanese man, Dr. Mikao Usui in the late
1800’s, through meditation and spiritual enlightenment. The Higher Powers of God consciousness are
believed to have directly initiated Dr. Usui into the secrets of Reiki.
Reiki,
originally confined to Japan, reached the western world in the late 1970’s,
through Mrs. Hawayo Takata, and American citizen of Japanese origin settled in
Hawaii.
Degrees of Reiki
First Degree Reiki – Is the basic course
which includes learning about the history, benefits and methods, of applying this
energy to your entire physical-emotional-mental-spiritual dimensions. You are also instructed in how to give a
treatment to family members, friends, pets and plants. In addition, you will be learning about
positive wellness, healing, balancing energy and how to treat illness with
Reiki.
Second Degree Reiki – is available to
those who have taken the First Degree and includes another level of energy
power activation. You are taught a
technique which is effective in absentee healing and for your own personal
growth and transformation. Second degree
Reiki teaches you to learn to direct energy on dimensions other than the
physical.
Third Degree/Master Reiki – includes
complete instruction in the process of doing the first and second degree
attunements. You will also learn how to
complete a healing attunement. You may
decide at this point if you would like to share your Reiki knowledge and gift
with others as a teacher.
Reiki
is utter simplicity. It is simple and
direct and can be learnt by anyone without any special qualifications. It can be done at any time or place, requires
no equipment or medicines. Reiki is an holistic therapy, that addresses the
body, mind, and spirit, going beyond symptoms to treat the root cause of the
disease. “The disease must return from
where it came”. Is a basic Reiki Tenet.
We
all have Reiki energy (universal life force) for it is our birthright. But to use the Reiki energy, one has to be
attuned to it.
The Attunement
The primary role of the Master is to “empower”
the student with the energy being transferred through light waves in an exact
process of attunement prescribed from the time of Dr. Usui. This attunement is also called “initiation”. The process opens the crown, heart and throat
charkas and creates a special link between the student and the Reiki Source.
The
Reiki attunement is a powerful spiritual experience. The process is guided by the Rei or God
consciousness and makes adjustments in the process depending on the needs of
each student. The attunement is also
attended by Reiki Guides and other spiritual beings who help implement the
process. A person who is attuned
experiences the very ancient technology for fine tuning the physical and
etheric bodies to a higher vibratory level.
In addition, the opening and energizing of the energy centres called
Chakras enables the person to channel and vibrate higher amounts of universal
life force energy. Many people have
reported having had mystical experiences involving personal messages, healings,
visions, and past life experiences during attunement. The attunement can also increase psychic
sensitivity. Some report experiences
involving opening of the third eye, increased intuitive awareness, and other
psychic abilities after receiving a Reiki Attunement.
The
Reiki attunement can start a cleansing process which affects the physical body,
mind and emotions. Toxins that have been
stored in the body may be released along with feelings and thought patterns
that are not longer of use.
The Healing
Once
attuned, all that is needed is for the practitioner to place his hands over the
body of the client for Reiki energy to flow;
Hawayo Takata has described Reiki as “The greatest secret in the science
of energetics”. Reiki is pure energy form. When it is combined with the desire of the
healer who is willing to effect a cleansing within his own emotional and
spiritual consciousness, a total healing occurs. Reiki has its own intelligence and knows
exactly where to go and what to do. In
fact the practitioner does not direct the Reiki, but it is the healer who draws
the energy through the practitioner.
Neither the healee nor the practitioner absorbs each other’s energy
because the energy is always outward-bound from the hands of the practitioner
(who acts only as a channel) to the
healer. Reiki has a mind of it’s own and
will communicate with the healer’s higher self and use this information where
to go and what to do. The best results
are achieved by the practitioner simply remaining calm and relaxed and allowing
Reiki to work at its own pace.
We
are alive because life force is flowing through us. Life force flows within the physical body
through pathways called Chakras, meridians and nadis. It also flows around us in a field of energy
called the aura. Life force nourishes
the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital
functions. When this flow of life force
is disrupted, it reduces the functional efficiency of one or more of the organs
and tissues of the physical body. The
life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when we accept,
consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about
ourselves. These negative thoughts or
feelings attached themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the
flow of life force. This decreases the
vital functions of the organs and cells of the physical body.
Reiki
heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging
them with positive energy. It raises the
vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where the
negative thoughts and feelings are attached.
This causes the negative energy to break up and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and
heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy
and natural way.
Reiki
leads us back to a state of wholeness in the widest sense of the word. One is brought back into a state of unity
with the harmony of the universe. Reiki
works through the charkas and endocrine glands to remove energy blocks and to
revitalize even the smallest cell, making one whole and healthy again, thus
encouraging the natural ability of the patient to heal himself. Remember, you are born with a doctor within
each of you.
Reiki
functions at all levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. It gives you the ability to live a loving,
joyful and fuller life and give similar help to others.

How is Reiki Different from Other Healing
Methods?
Several healing methods are prevalent in
the world which use “ki”, or “chi”, or
“life force”, each using its own special methods. They all require months or years of special
training; some require the practitioner to be in an altered state of
consciousness. In some forms of energy
healing such as magnetic healing, mental healing, the practitioner must keep a
constant focus on the sending of energy with no distraction from the client.
But not
so with Reiki. The key to Reiki is its
utter simplicity. It is simple and
direct and can be learnt by anyone without any special qualifications. It can be done at any time or place, requires
no equipment or medicines. Reiki is a
holistic therapy, that addresses the body, mind and spirit, going beyond symptoms to treat the
root cause of the disease. “The disease
must return from where it came”, is a basic Reiki Tenet.
